First consultation and diagnostics
CHF 100 – 1,500The first consultation is charged according to the SSO dental fee schedule. Together with the full work-up – X-rays, a digital scan and a treatment plan – it typically costs CHF 100 to 1,500 in Switzerland, depending on scope.
Cleaning and bleaching
CHF 100 – 500Professional teeth cleaning and whitening (bleaching) – as a stand-alone service or to round off orthodontic treatment. The price depends on the scope.
Removable appliance (children, early treatment)
CHF 3,000 – 4,000Removable appliances that guide jaw growth – usually at age 7 to 11, often as a first phase before fixed braces.
Fixed braces (brackets)
CHF 6,000 – 12,000For a complete treatment over 18 to 30 months, including all check-ups. Discreet ceramic brackets sit at the upper end of the range.
Clear aligners
CHF 4,000 – 10,000Minor corrections start at around CHF 3,000 to 4,000; comprehensive treatments over 12 to 24 months are CHF 6,000 to 10,000.
Retainers and stabilisation
CHF 500 – 1,500After every treatment a retainer holds the result. Bonded wires and removable retainers are often already included in the treatment price – we tell you in advance.
Who covers the costs?
Supplementary dental insurance
Many health insurers offer supplementary insurance that contributes to the cost of orthodontic treatment for children and adolescents. The amount covered and the maximum benefits vary considerably between insurers. Important: the insurance must be taken out before treatment becomes necessary, ideally in the first years of life. Check your policy early.
Compulsory basic health insurance (KVG)
Basic health insurance covers dental and jaw treatment only in exceptional cases, for example in the event of a severe, unavoidable disease of the masticatory system, a severe general illness or a congenital disorder after the age of 20. Common tooth misalignment is not included. As a rule, treatment is paid for privately.
Disability Insurance (IV)
For recognized congenital jaw conditions, such as pronounced misalignments listed in the Swiss Ordinance on Congenital Disorders, the IV covers the cost of orthodontic treatment up to the age of 20. We assess whether the criteria are met as part of the diagnostic assessment and support you with the application.
Payment
Billing is based on the dental fee schedule of the SSO (Swiss Dental Association). Practices invoice the costs in installments over the course of treatment, so no large one-off payment is required.
